My top scoring beer of all time.
A perfect wild saison brew. Field, fruit, and beyond.
Deep haze. Rich, golden white fluffy head that can last for 2-3 hours.
Intense natural carbonation. Sourdoughy, sweet, floral, fresh and woodsy.
Off the charts flavors. Fruit. Forest. Strawberry muffin… wet stone and faint blueberry crumble.. deep bread again. Rich toasted sourdough. Hop excursions. Deep intense rich barrel character! Woah!!
1/50 bottles might gush on you, not that I would know. The odds are worth running and even the gushers are totally superbly still drinkable, especially with food.
Anyways. I’d recommending sharing this bottle as a party of two for the optimum experience. The care towards the brew and woodwork here makes this original American wild foeder an all-time classic!

My first experience with this brewer, bottled 9-19-2019. So about 18 months old now.
Overall this is a nice enough beer that hides its punch (9%) very well. A bit too acidic/acetic for my tastes, but that is likely exacerbated by the age. If Brett and acidity is your jam then this would probably satisfy tremendously
Deep amber/orange, slightly hazy with very active carbonation producing a loose soapy white head that shrinks to a dense white cover fairly quickly.
Nose is led by apricot/nectarine like esters with a nice white wine dryness rounding it out. Really enchanting aroma!
Taste is somewhat inverted with a bracing dryness leading the way and the sweet stone fruit elements playing a supporting role. Taste is a bit imbalanced toward the dry and acetic side, giving me a bit of the fresh rubber flavor.
Mouthfeel is very prickly carbonated but with a bit of a slick finish that is unusual to me, like it hits your tongue like Orval and then finishes like an English mild.

L: Standard golden blonde ale.
S: Some farm notes with a bit of fizz.
T: A build up of farm notes into a brett finish.
F: Light and farmy.
O: A very light farmhouse with a bit of brett at the end.

Poured from 375mL corked & caged bottle into a tulip. Bottled 08/2017.
Appearance: rich golden hue with a bit of a haze and a massive effervescence. The head is a thin layer of white foam, which is slight compared to the effervescence on offer; still, it looks damn good overall.
Smell: classic farmhouse aroma with a bit of Brett on the nose. I'm not getting much of a sour note despite the Brett and Lactobacillus, but it's still a wonderful funk.
Taste: funky, earthy, malty, just a little bit sweet, just a little bit sour, and a whole lot delightful. This is a complex beer with a lot of varied and interesting stuff going on; it's very autumnal in nature with earthy flavors and a rich funk. I really like it.
Mouthfeel: light body with a thin feel but a great big carbonation. It's got a big creaminess, if an evanescent one. The light mouthfeel works because the beer is so otherwise refreshing. I like it.
Overall: this beer drinks like a soda pop (albeit an earthy mushroom sour soda pop), absolutely nowhere near its 9% heft. It's a dangerous treat and I dig it.

Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a slightly hazy orange/golden amber with a fizzy two finger head that dissipates to a fine half finger head with good lacing. Aroma of grainy malt, tart citrus, wild yeast and hints of light stone fruit. Flavor is grainy malt, sour apple and lemon, earthy grain, a little brett; lactic. Medium bodied with medium creaminess and nice mouth feel. There is some saison character here, the malt has a saison feel, but the overall flavor is sour. I've come to the conclusion that lactobacillus is not a flavor that invites me to long sipping, and although it is not as dominant here as a classic sour ale, it is enough to take the edge off the saison grain and fruit flavors for me. Saisons are a gamble for me and this one is too tart. Appears and tastes well made and the ancestry of this brewery is promising.
