473 mL can; dated Oct 15 2025 and served slightly chilled. Day 23 of the 2025 Toronto Brewing advent calendar.
Pours a clear golden colour, giving rise to one finger of soapy white head that disintegrates within two or three minutes. A narrow collar is left behind, surrounding a sparse patch of film on the surface; lace deposition is spotty at best. Fairly neutral aroma of doughy, grainy pale malts, grassy hops and straw.
It's not bad. The flavours basically follow the nose - grainy, doughy pale malts, with some bready, biscuity sweetness followed by a touch of grassy, herbal hops on the tail end. Off-dry conclusion. Light-medium in body, with moderately low carbonation that gently agitates the tongue; feels smooth on the palate. Easy to drink en masse, but you can say that about any decent pale lager.
Final Grade: 3.66, a B grade. Runner Duck Lager is essentially a boilerplate craft lager. Just to be clear, I'm not saying that this is a *bad* beer - it's competently brewed, and at least slightly above average when compared to the average 'Ontario craft lager'. I enjoyed my glass, but I can't get around the fact that it's kind of forgettable - and also an underwhelming pick for this calendar's penultimate slot (though that's not the beer's fault). Nothing to write home about, but I'm glad I had the chance to try it.

Draft at the brewery
Nice creamy semi dense head, good lacing, medium retention, crystal clear light watery pale color
Nose lager malts, grainy, straw, light mineral water, little herbal hop
Taste sweet grainy malt, big lager malt with straw and grassy cereal, medium herbal floral hop bitterness, light minerals and sulfury note, drier finish
Mouth is med to lighter bod, medium carb, crisp lager
Overall not bad, solid lager with decent hop
