another samey saison from these guys, they all seem fermented too warm, no diverse or rustic enough in grain or yeast, and frankly lacking any points of differentiation. this one has a couple of negative aspects for me, especially compared to all the other beers in this style from them that i have had recently. for one, there is this curious smoke element to it, seems accidental, almost burnt or scorched, more in taste than smell. secondly, this is overly phenolic, fermented way too warm i have to think, past estery to like medicinal and almost toxic when it warms up, a little of this is okay, this much is out of control. its also less hoppy than most of the other ones, which in this instance means less balanced. it still has a nice wheaty body, good carbonation, and is relatively dry, all of which i like in the style, but it doesnt have the same level of quality that many of their hoppy beers do. this is one of the least impressive beers i have ever had from these guys. i think if they are going to try to keep it up with the saisons that they need to commit to making some wild beers, these are fine, but they do not match up to the higher quality hoppy stuff, especially this one.
