Piraat Red

Not sure Red deserves these low ratings. It is sweet, but it still paired well with a meal I had in Perth's Belgian Bar. Maybe raters think everything in the Piraat line is hoppy and spicy and were disappointed. I guess a good product line brand can cut the other way when a brew like Red is so different than Piraat the strong, spicy pale. I wasn't impressed to drink Red again. Van Steenberge should reduce the sweetness and, probably, the ABV.

Red Looks great, big foaming head in Piraat's distinctive tulip. Smells fruity, pushing into sugary. Tastes could be balanced with less sugar and more spicing. Full-mouthed and bubbly. A good yeast saves this recipe. I like Van Steenberge (hence good Overall), but Red should not have been bottled.

 

Bottle at The Situation, served in a trappist glass. Dirty pink color, small head that quickly fades to a thin layer. One finger lacing. Aroma is mostly artificial, syrup, medicine. A bit of cherries and fruit pit. Vanilla, chew gum. Medium body, watery texture, average carbonation. Too sweet finish. Taste follows the aroma. It's not up to Van Steenberge. I just drank middle glass and I don't know why.

 

De Belgiuminabox. El toque a cerezas es bastante suave pero con el sabor a la fruta bien marcado y también bastante presencia de malta. El alcohol no molesta mientras la bebés, pero se termina subiendo mucho a la cabeza
