Having this beer on tap at the brewery at their annual anniversary party, this particular year is their ninth year anniversary. This particular batch is 13.8% AVB.

Pours a stark, jet-black hue capped with a finger and a half of pale mocha foam; solid head retention leaves a creamy, half-finger of cap, expansive, frothy collar, and minimal webby lacing holding with any longevity to the walls of the glass.
Aromas bring immense oak tannins apparent from the start, sporting slight hickory edges and a subliminal, dark cherry air; a charred butterscotch peak offers caramel accents as ample char persists and subtle vanillins settle.
Taste opens to splintery oak coating creamy vanilla, with charry maple waves and bourbon caramel/molasses subtext expanding over the mid-palate; dark cocoa and a thinly-veiled, ripe bourbon peak course to prominence on the back end of the profile.
Mouthfeel shows a medium-full body and mild carbonation, fading to slickness with ample char distribution; a silky mid-palate yields to heavy roast and level bittering through the back end, while boozy warmth is extensive past the finish.
Barrel absurdity abounds as a Stagg Jr. expose wafts through heavy cocoa, splintery yet with deceptively deft sweetness coursing throughout this richly oaked treat; a paramount example of barrel proof influence over stout.

Midnight black pour with no sustained head. Hot barrel dominates all aspects here. Earthy smokiness right behind in the smell and taste. Nose has some dark chocolate, taste has that and molasses. But so much wood and mostly booze! Feel is more hot than showing off the barrel, sip burns a bit. Cellar this one

Look - black thick great tan rimming and lacing
Smell - bourbon woody chocolate and booze
Taste - well balanced with bourbon woody caramel bakers chocolate a light cinnamon and booze

The nose is immediately intense of woody hickory, nutty chocolate and boozy dark fruit with hints of molasses and maple.
Taste adds espresso with deep and varied threads of oak, exhaling a sustained warmth. Powerful, the splintery oak is both intriguing and a bit potently, almost pungently aggressive. It's almost stomach arresting, yet also magnetically attractive. This intensity recedes a little on the belly as the booze hits the blood, allowing the complexity of its oak threads to blossom in new arrays as I chew through it.
The fluffy body is yet lightly chewy with a semi-sticky, semi-dry finish that breathes some fusel vapors that somehow aren't hot.
