Appearance: Poured with a thumb's worth of head that produced some mild lacing for the short period of time it lasted. The body is cloudy and to be honest looks more like muddy water and is too cloudy to show any carbonation.
Smell: I think a couple whiffs of straw and caramel but it's mostly absent. Even warming doesn't bring much out except for a bit more straw. Nothing offensive, but just nothing there.
Taste: Caramel malt that turns to wet straw and a bit of a grain note and then finishes with some fairly non-descript hops. I mean, it's not bad, but nothing much to write home about.
Mouthfeel: Carbonation is good, and helps out the entire beer, transisitoning is ok but it's not exactly a long journey and the aftertaste seems to focus more on the caramel aspect which is nice.
Drinkability: Lighter side of medium body, refreshing and settles down well and pretty easy to drink with a bit more heft and character to a standard lager.
Final Thoughts: I generally prefer Marzen over Festbier for Octoberfest. The darker more carmael malt I find is better served in October when winter is upon us. This one isn't really an exception to that rule, but so long as you can get over it's appearance, it's fine.
