amazing beer in collaboration with fonta flora and with their labeling and waxing appearance, one of my early favorite beers of 2018, which some may say is a gross overreaction to some novelty, but this is seriously expert and interesting, wholly its own, and i love beer like that, and its harder and harder to come by. for one, the abv is so awesome, i love beer that lets me drink all day, extend a session, or start slowly, and this is all of that at under 3% abv, so cool. its made in the kvass style, but instead of rye bread, its rye waffles, in addition there is vanilla and some cherries, aged on wood, super wild and funky and absolutely one of a kind. pale in color, a little hazed over, and not looking nearly as light as it should at this abv, great head too. the nose is crazy, tons of vanilla and a little desserty as such, perhaps a little tartness from the cherries but i dont get a ton of fruit. the rye waffle thing is cool, i get the grain element of it, the starchiness too, a little sweet like honey or maple, very rustic and harvesty, cool in such a light beer, and a classic fonta flora weird fermentation, bretty and wild, woody, delicate though too, so interesting! i could imagine hundreds of other breweries trying to do something like this and it being gimmicky and terrible, but here we have something cohesive that i just cant set down. i like the wood and the rye together, some white winey tang meets flavorful grain, grounded and earthy, baked and sturdy. brett is mature but mild, vanilla is the strongest flavor after the grain/waffle complex. effervescent carbonation and piquant sort of dryness offset by the vanilla. this is so intriguing and awesome, i loved every drop and hope to drink this again someday! what a beverage!
