“Exquisite Blend Four: The Vitality of Raj” is a Blend of English Barleywines Aged in Pappy Van Winkle 20 Year Old Bourbon barrels for 18 months, Elijah Craig 20 Year Old Bourbon barrels for 20 months, and Thomas H. Handy Rye Whiskey barrels for 27 months. The blend was chosen by one of my best friends, Reyjay, aka Raj, who is also my label designer once we get the original artwork from Spring Whitaker. This 14.4% ABV blend is full of caramel and toffee, along with a dark fruit character in the finish with lingering barrel notes.

Dark brown body that is mostly opaque with a lighter brown collar. Smell has huge dark fruits with toffee, bourbon, rye, barley, and oak mixed in, slight caramel and vanilla in the background. Tastes like a grape juice with some date got dumped into a toffee and caramel forward BA barleywine. The barrels with char, barley, toasty oak and vanillins are on the very finish as a result, otherwise the dark fruit, caramel and toffee lead most of the way. Feel is a very light, barrel character is there but too faintly given the pedigree, but is warm and smooth, more sugar on the palate for sure.

Pours deep brown with slight reddish hue. Aroma is subtle combination of dark fruits and caramel. Taste is more pronounced and is a wonderful combination of the caramel, dark fruits and distinct bourbon flavor. Mouthfeel is on lighter side of medium. Overall a wonderful barleywine.
