Drank from a 1 pint can purchased at Alvarium Beer Company, New Britain, CT
12/22/21
Served in a tulip
Thanks to my sister Vanessa for grabbing me a few cans of this.
The beer poured a cloudy plum color and was as glittery as anticipated. Although the glitter was difficult to spot initially, when you held the glass to the light and looked carefully, the glitter was everywhere. The liquid was topped by a frothy, inch-tall, light pink crown that fell to a dollop of froth. A spotty wall of fruit purée stuck all along the glass.
The aroma was impressive. Even though the beer was infused with plum, this definitely smelled very berry forward. Blueberry notes were most apparent. Good dose of ripe strawberry too. Raspberry was noticeable as well. Sweet overall, though not excessively so. Somewhat candy-like with just a hint of tartness.
The flavor profile was similar to the nose. Berry notes came through strong. Again, blueberry was most noticeable. Lots of strawberry and raspberry as well. Fairly sweet but also moderately tart. The tartness increased as the beer moved along the palate. Touch of lingering lemon-like acidity on the back end and the finish. Hint of lingering bitterness after the swallow.
The mouthfeel was creamy and fuller bodied for the style. Slick and smooth on the palate. The liquid contained a finer beaded, fairly subtle effervescence that worked nicely.
Glitz and the glam aside, this glitter fruited sour was super tasty and refreshing. Despite the fact that it was created as a holiday beer, I would be happy to drink it year round.
