Talus, formerly known as Experimental HBC 692, has been finding it’s way into a not inconsequential amount of our recipes lately. Given our proclivity for this shiny new stunner, we figured it was overdue for a ride with our favorite fog dog.

Thanks, Sam!
Got a pretty sweet haul from Sam. I asked for some BlackStack and Drekker (I’m surprised I forgot about Fair State), but this one was what I went with first. Figured out this one was Talus, which I was psyched about because I really dig the new hop. Online description for this beer read, “Talus, formerly known as Experimental HBC 692, has been finding it’s way into a not inconsequential amount of our recipes lately. Given our proclivity for this shiny new stunner, we figured it was overdue for a ride with our favorite fog dog.” Had to look it up since I was still new to it, but hop profile called for pink grapefruit, citrus rind, dried roses, pine, resin, tropical fruits and sage, with its roots from Sabro. No wonder I like it so much.
Poured a pale yellow hazy color with 2-to-3 fingers of frothy off-white head. Plenty of bubbles creeping up along the sides of the glass. World-class spiderweb foamy lacing. World-class retention. (Sight - 4.50)
Smelled tangerine, pink lemonade, grapefruit, stone fruit, nectarine, rose blossom, floral, woody pine, dank resin and fresh-cut grass. Even better out of the can. (Smell - 4.25)
Tasted almost as good as the nose. Best taste was the first one. Got pink lemonade, grapefruit, stone fruit, nectarine, dank resin, woody pine, rose blossom, floral, fresh-cut grass and lingering peppery spice. (Taste - 4.00)
Medium body. Creamy texture. Lively carbonation. Abrupt, juicy finish. (Feel - 4.25)
Just an excellent New England Style beer. Was back and forth on a few categories, but I think this was properly rated. (Overall - 4.25)

Poured from a 16 ounce can into an IPA glass.
Look- Sudsy white head, medium haziness, straw, average head retention, below average lacing.
Smell- Grassy, floral, pine resin, overall weak aromatics.
Taste- Pineapple, tangerine, pine resin, earthy, slightly mild flavor.
Feel- Between thin and medium body, low bitterness, soft, creamy, clean finish, gentle carbonation.
Overall- Nice flavor and balance, just not as vibrant as I had expected. Also, the can states “DDH DIPA”, but this is the first 6.8% DIPA I have ever seen.

Can. Hazy golden orange. White head. Lace.
This one has a big watermelon flavor. Some strawberry. Soft. Lighter flavored, but only a single. Drinks like it. Has some earthy hops showing.
Solid, but just a tad too light on the flavors compared to other BS beers.
