deeper colored rye brew with half the grain being rye, fermented with a hefeweizen yeast, a little rough around the edges, but a flavorful brew that showcases the rye well. looks like a slightly hazy brown ale in the glass, not much head by the time it gets to the table, but i did not see it get poured and it might have settled waiting to be delivered to us. smells earthy and wet, mildly spicy from the rye but more bready than anything, weirdly richer than i want it to be, a sweetness through it like caramel, like it hasnt been fermented long enough, some light spiciness from the yeast as well which marries nicely with the rye. the flavor is also sweeter than it needs to be, with a long boiled concentrated vibe, hints of brown sugar, even cocoa to it with the darker grain. somewhat of a distraction, but plenty of rye on display still, and i like that, and i like the yeast choice too, just wish they gave it a little more time. my issue here is the texture, this is close to flat, sedimented, and sugary, it needs some bubbles, some refinement, and a drier finish, if they were to move in that direction this would be excellent, but right not its a little bit amateur overall. still, i like the bold use of rye and think this one has a lot of potential.
