Copenhagen 2/8 2022. 44 cl can from Mikkeller web-shop. Very gloomy can with a cracked grey wall in front of a dark and depressing sky.

Pours opaque golden orange with a small white head. Settles as thin,, flimsy, almost transparent layer of foam struggling to cover the surface of the beer. No lacing.

Aroma is fairly intense with a malty odor mingling with fermented fruit. Citrus fruit looming. Caramel and fermented mango and peach. Grapefruit and citrus.

Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, soft, almost flat texture.

Flavor is intense with a strong sweetness followed by a medium strong bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter with a boozy sweet undertone. Lingers for a while. Finish is gently searing abundant with an alcohol.

As a DIPA should be. Sweet and boozy but with a bitter bite.

Pours a medium yellow color, 2 fingers of foamy head that lingers. Pleasant citrus aroma of orange and lemon, nice dose of sweetness. Very flavorful, loads of citrus flavors. Semi sweet with a slightly bitter dry finish. Good carbonation, pretty syrupy for the style.

A: Pours a murky + slightly milky medium golden honey in color with moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and moderate apricot + peach + medium golden yellow + burnt orange colored highlights. The beer has a three finger tall dense creamy sudsy foamy off-white head that slowly reduces to a few small patches of thick film surrounded by a large patch of medium thick film covering the remainder of the surface of the beer and a thick ring at the edge of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of juicy citrus/grapefruit + tropical/pineapple + tropical/passionfruit + stone fruit/peach hops over the top of moderate aromas of biscuit + pale + oat malts with moderate amounts of sugary sweetness.

T: Upfront there are moderate flavors of biscuit + pale + oat malts with moderate amounts of sugary sweetness. That is followed by moderate to strong flavors of juicy citrus/grapefruit + tropical/pineapple + tropical/passionfruit + stone fruit/peach hops which impart a minimal amount of bitterness which fades away very quickly leaving slightly stronger than moderate tropical + citrus hop flavors.

M: Slightly heavier than medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Slightly heavier than moderate amounts of creamy soft/fluffiness mid-body and just a hint of dryness in the finish.

O: Drinks quite easily considering the strength of this brew - alcohol is well hidden and the mouthfeel is a bit fuller than other examples of NETIPA. Really enjoyable combination of hop flavors and aromas - citrus and tropical with lots lingering in the finish.

Picked up a single from the Blue Door Bottleshop in Hendersonville 5-14-21 for $7.00. Canned on 3-23-21; consumed 5-22-21.

Beer poured a hazy golden orange with a very nice white head that has some seriously good hang time.

Nose is a nice blend of tropical and citrus hops.

Taste is a huge malt base with peach, grapefruit, and pine. Finishes with an alcohol aftertaste with a bitterness that rates 6/10 on my scale.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and more smooth than refreshing.

Overall a spendy brew that is like an old school TIPA with the alcohol not well hidden.

Bought from Tavour.
I know... This should be classified as an AIIPA. At 10.3%, this ale is not considered an NEIPA by the standard definition. But you know what? That probably should change. Here's why from a malt-head perspective....
The AIIPA has been polluted by too many hops and the alcohol was amped-up, IMHO, to coverup any mistakes but still make people happy. (In brief, the AIIPA is a cheap thrill.)

However... The NEIPA saved the style with fruity aromatics and hops that didn't beat-up the buds. So just because brewers and consumers are liking the NEIPA stronger, that doesn't mean they should be forced into the style that was a bad idea in the previous century and is being displaced two years later by the NEIPA anyway.

As for Human Potential... It is a clever name. I'm also thinking the style Looks better if poured into a wide mouth glass to spread out the foam. And it worked here and Human Potential Looked rich and milky and not too foamy. For Smells, I'm getting standard tropical fare but without the bitter hops. For Taste, really about the same tropical fruits backed by just enough bitter to prevent this from being a pina colada. I get a slight after-taste, but I should be able to get over it.

My search through Resident Culture's website was not as promising as the micro's name or the beer's name. I couldn't find much. But, I wish them well and hope they move on to brews inspired by the Belgians.
