Was lucky enough to get this and a bunch of other good stuff from a college friend. Was psyched to see one of my favorite local breweries - Modern Times - teaming up with an awesome North Carolina brewery - Resident Culture - for a pilsner. Casita Brewing Company (North Carolina) was also in on the collab. Description read, “Italian Pilsner hopped with Barbe Rouge, Aramis and Strisselsplat. Collaboration with our friends at Modern Times (San Diego, CA) and Casita Cerveceria (Fountain, NC).” Going in had no idea about all three hops. With a little research, the main characteristics of each hop are citrus, berry and floral for Barbe Rouge, spice, citrus and herbs for Aramis and herbal, floral, spicy, citrus and fruit for Strisselsplat. Sounded interesting.
Poured a medium yellow clear color with 4-to-5 fingers of rocky white head. Lots of fast-moving bubbles coming up from the sides and bottom of the glass. Excellent spotty lacing. Perfect foamy retention. (Sight - 4.75)
Was really digging the smell. In order got lemon, berry, floral, peppery spice, white cracker, sourdough bread, hay, dry grass, herbal and citrus zest. A little different from the can with bread and some dry malts leading the way. Really good overall on the nose. (Smell - 4.50)
Taste was pretty damn good, almost as good as the nose. In order got dry floral, berry, lemon, peppery spice, white cracker, sourdough bread, dry grass, hay, herbal and citrus zest. Based off the hop descriptions, I’d go Barbe Rouge, followed by Strisselsplat and Aramis. (Taste - 4.25)
Medium body. Creamy texture. Lively carbonation. Long, dry finish. (Feel - 4.50)
Just a world-class pilsner. So damn good all the way across the board and may have underrated this. (Overall - 4.50)

A: Pours a clear medium golden yellow in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising quickly from the bottom of the glass and faint bright yellow + pale yellow colored highlights. The beer has a three finger tall dense sudsy foamy white head that reduces to a handful of small to medium sized patches of medium thick film surrounded by a large patch of slightly mottled very thin film covering the remainder of the surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Slightly heavier than moderate amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Just shy of moderate aromas of biscuit + bready + grainy malts with a very light amount of grainy sweetness along with a light aroma of earthy + spicy + herbal + grassy hops. Hints of lager yeast aromas.
T: Upfront there are just shy of moderate flavors of biscuit + bready + grainy malts with a very light amount of grainy sweetness. That is followed by a very light flavor of lager yeast. Finally there are earthy + spicy + herbal + grassy hops which impart a light amount of bitterness which slowly fades away leaving a relatively clean finish.
M: Slightly heavier than light bodied with slightly heavier than moderate amounts of carbonation. Crisp with a clean finish.
O: Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol and a crisp + clean + refreshing mouthfeel. Enjoyable though subtle (even for an Italian style Pilsner) hop flavors from a different combination of hops than I have seen in other similar offerings. I could easily have a couple of these on a hot summer evening with just about any kind of food.

Unfiltered golden caramel body. Bright citrus, lemon and light Pilsner malt. Sweet cracker and touch of biscuit. Finishes hoppy with grass, floral and citrus. Lighter medium bodied, nice carb. Not as crisp or hoppy as Tipo, but I’ll still take it.
