We know District 96 for brewing outstanding IPAs and hoppy pale ales. I was pretty stoked to see them bringing forth a porter. DELICIOUS !!!! Beautiful deep roasted malts in the nose. You know even before it hits your taste buds this will be a great porter. Nice lacing in the glass. This comes in 2 versions - all nitro and nitro/CO2 blend. For my palate, and my drinking partner, we LOVED the nitro. Most of us around for the birth of the 80''s craft boom, we were raised on pales, ambers and stouts. If we were lucky, some brewed a great porter. Fast forward to 2017 - Dark Money is it. We're hoping it'll be around for cold winter nights. Great beer..... great to see these guys adding a great porter to their line up.

Poured from fresh crowler into District 96 goblet. It pours a dark walnut - nearly black - with a mocha-colored head and lacing that dissipated quickly. The nose features both burnt and fresh coffee, along with dark chocolate and nuts. There is also a whiff of caramel. It has a classic porter taste: roasty, earthy coffee, bakers chocolate, pumpernickel bread, and nuts. It finishes with a burnt coffee bitterness. As the glass warmed, I detected a hint of the sweetness I smelled but it's very subtle. Because it's on nitro it's creamy but without much carbonation. At only 5.4% ABV, it's very easy to drink. This is the first dark beer from District 96 that I've and they did a great job. While it may not have the "wow" factor of some of D96's IPA's, it's a very fine American Porter. I'm looking forward to what D96 does with this base Porter in the future.
