Finally visited Wild Barrel for the first time the day before. Wanted to order this beer, but it was can pour only (and $8). At the end of the night I tried to buy one, but it was only 4-packs (didn’t see the take home price). Pretty ironic that the next day I saw it at Windmill Farms and for $4.99 nonetheless. Instantly picked it up. Was labeled as an, “Imperial Pastry Sour made with Strawberries, Lactose & Vanilla Beans.” Was really impressed with their Vice kettle sour beers, so was looking forward to this one as well.
Poured a copper/garnet color with one finger of off-white fizzy head which dissipated immediately. Some slow moving bubble streams coming up along the sides of the glass. Below average spotty watery lacing. Poor retention. (Sight - 2.50)
Smelled strawberry, vanilla, strawberry puree, cheesecake and dark cherry. Not much else and not like there needed to be. (Smell - 4.00)
Tasted a little better than the smell. So sweet. Got strawberry, vanilla milkshake, dark cherry, sugary lactose and strawberry puree. The 8.8 pct. ABV was well-hidden. (Taste - 4.25)
Medium body. Sticky texture. Soft carbonation. Long, sweet finish. (Feel - 4.25)
Reminded me of the Vice tasters I had the other day. So damn sweet, but outstanding overall. Not sure I needed a full pint of this though. (Overall - 4.00)
