Tomorrows, our Earl Grey Tripel, is brewed to signal the first signs of spring. We describe Tomorrows as 'a Belgian Oreo'. Our spring dessert beer balances bergamot with creamy vanilla and subtle floral esters thanks to the Cream Earl Grey tea from The Monarch Tea Co.

on tap at MERIT, a 9% Earl Grey Tripel. Review from Notes
Appearance - Hazy golden color with a finger plus of dense and long lived white head.
Smell - Powdery yeast, black tea with some spicy and fruity offshoots.
Taste - Semi sweet with some apple skins and pear, earl grey tea, hints of spiciness and a floral background. Bready powdered doughnuts also show up. Quite sweet, bordering on way too sweet.
Mouthfeel - Medium-full bodied with expressive carbonation. Semi-dry finish and the hints of spicy add to the sensations on the tongue.
Overall - Better tripel than expected, maybe not the perfect balance of the Belgian greats but balanced and extremely flavorful.

Appearance: A cloudy yellow body that produced a thumb of head that could have stayed around a bit more but did produce some lacing. I would normally expect a bit more carbonation in the body from the style, bit it's still strong.
Smell: Wonderful stuff, and true to it's name as orange, bergamot and a touch of pear make for a fruity nose with tea, toasted grains are present in the background. Potency is there and did not require warming. Really, additional potency and complexity are my only two complaints,
Taste: Starts with mild cereal malt that takes a back door to a touch of sour orange reminiscent of marmalade without cloves on toast. Then a regrettably brief jamboree of various fruits arrive as pear, berries and apricot run by and are followed by a bitter tea and an taste I can best describe as melon rind, which initially is fine...but....
Mouthfeel: They return back with far more potency and cling shortly after swallowing and not in a good way, drowning out the more pleasant aspects of the beer. The carbonation was great, as was the transitioning up until this bizarre return of the least desirable flavors the beer provides it seems. That cling and kick back from the aftertaste is ruining what was a great experience during the first half of the beer.
Drinkability: On the lighter end of medium body which is good, and it seems to conceal it's ABV well enough, but that cling is really putting a wall up after the half way point. Easy on the stomach, but a little gassy, but it's not a major concern.
Final Thoughts: Honestly, if this beer was served in a 250ml bottle, it would have probably gotten a better score. That slowly building aftertaste, which was nearly invisible initially that grew and grew like some kind of Godzilla style monster ironically yanked this offering back to earth. I'm not a brewer, so I can't speculate as to what's causing it, but I can see an IPA drinker maybe getting more of a kick out of it. For me, it was a single huge blemish on a mostly positive experience.
