At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a nonic pint glass. From my favourite LCBO at Tecumseh Mall in nearby Windsor. My seventh beer from the Hamilton, Ontario brewery, and second for 2025...

473 mL can, day 7 of the 2022 Toronto Brewing beer advent calendar; no canning date and served slightly chilled.
A brief explanation: this can had been in my fridge for a few weeks, and I came home today to discover that it had literally popped its own top - i.e. the entire roof of the can (tab, lid and all) was blown off along the seam, save for a 'hinge' that remained attached on one side (check out my untappd for an amusing picture). Clearly a defect in the can/seam itself, which isn't Merit's fault. Thankfully, nearly all of the liquid stayed inside the can, and it's not flat (yet). I'm still going to review this, because you should never leave a man, or a beer, behind.
Pours a murky purplish colour, taking on a hazy, brilliant magenta hue when held to the light. It's topped with more than two fingers of fluffy, big bubbled pink head that lazily seeps off within five-plus minutes; gobs of beautiful lace stick to the glass, with a patchy, sudsy cap and messy collar holding their position indefinitely. Looks good, except the head leaves behind a scuzzy film on the glass. Cherry juice and lime on the nose, with subtler hints of banana, sweet apples and vanilla also coming through. More of a juicy-sweet aroma vs. a sour one, though there are shades of tartness and lactic acidity/funkiness.
Tastes pretty damn good to me, i.e. no suggestions whatsoever that this 'went bad'. Cherry juice is the main player, with the lime serving as a citrusy, mildly tart/acidic foil for its sweetness; the vanilla is more of a low key presence that tapers off. It finishes with more sweet cherry, tart cherry juice, ripe banana and mild lactic acidity, staying juicy and tart into the aftertaste. Gives you the sticky lips. Medium in body, with middling carbonation that adds a little bit of a bite to this brew's juicy mouthfeel.
Final Grade: 4.02, an A-. I've had infected fruit sours before (and trust me, they're gross), so the fact that Waves CBL&V tasted really good only further cements my belief that this was due to a faulty can, rather than a QA issue. It's also partially my own fault, because who the hell holds on to advent calendar beers for weeks after the fact? A real jerk, that's who. Back to the matter at hand - this is a really nice fruit beer that I think will appeal to cherry beer and kriek fans in particular.
