As a sign of respect to the previous owners of our new spot in Costa Mesa, it just made sense to us that we needed to make our first brew on the system a Coconut Rye Stout. Full-bodied, a tad sweet, and giving some Almond Joy-like vibes from the use of chocolatey malted barley and a huge 12 pound per bbl addition of real toasted coconut!

10 oz glass at the brewery: Black topped by tan creamy head of decently long duration. Smell is a whiff of cocoanut plus dark roasted grains. The flavor is more of the same, just amped up. I really like the way the cocoanut is more to the nuanced rather than "in-your-face" side of the flavor continuum that has no trace of the "fake chemical flavoring" sometimes found in flavored stouts. Nice body , on the heavy/viscous side. Overall, a very nice take on a flavored stout.

Packaged 8/1/22 - consumed 11/5/22 - poured from a 16oz can into my Dogfish Head shaped pint glass.

Opaque seal brown liquid with two incredibly dense fingers of beige foam. Rich, fat lacing; endless retention. Nitro beers often have an edge visually.

Faintly dusty, lightly toasted whole wheat/brown bread, grassy/leafy hop notes.

Deep malty presentation with coconut and bittersweet chocolate. Smooth, rich, with the individual flavors well integrated. Mild bitterness throughout, more to the herbal/grassy side than citrus or tropical. Coconut seems to grow stronger as the beer warms. Medium-dry finish with a hint of spice from the rye.

Full bodied, creamy, soft mouthfeel - the nitro delivers. No heat or acrid notes.

Wonderful stout, rich flavors while keeping the ABV and sweetness in check.

On tap at Green Cheek tasting room in Orange.
Black with light brown head.
Roasty grain and toasty coconut on the nose. Delightful.
Slightly burnt coconut toast flavors with restrained bitterness.
Creamy and thick with an enjoyable tongue coat from the nitro.
Dude, this bangs.

I mean, wowie to the zowie! Can I!!??? When Raul poured this thang and watched all the glorious liquid cascade down the glass, all he could think about was Alejandra Ambrossio taking her drawers off - it was that good! Then... Oh... Yes... Sweet hell... From two feet away I could smell this son of a gun like a blood hound looking for the county drunk. Yes. This was straight fire from far away! Taste is right there. So there like Ichiro gunning a newb trying to stretch a single into a double. And then there’s that feel... That FEEL! Like my baby mama after a hot wax - come to me, baby, I need you.

I’m out!
