Today is a new beer to me.

Barrel Theory – DDH Magic Man

7.1% ABV

The beer is listed as an IPA with mosaic on the label – and listed as “IPA – New England” on BA.

The beer was removed from a 40ish degree temp fridge after having been refrigerated for approximately 1 day. Beer poured into willi belcher.

First Impression: Hops as soon as can opened. Pours less like a juicy IPA and more like simply a ‘hazy’ IPA. 4.0

Appearance: Hazy, yellow-brown. A bit like a scotch-bonnet hot sauce means grapefruit juice. Nice lacing and great head with beautiful foam. 4.0

Smell: Pine upfront followed by hops. Smell is a bit subdued, but I’m not disappointed…much 3.85

Taste: Pine at the start. Then you notice how light and absent of bitter it is. It’s not that there is no bitter, but it is lacking (which I appreciate and want). Beyond that everything is muddled. It doesn’t bother me, but it is a bit non-descript hops meets light citrus/tropical fruits. I enjoy it, but it is muddled. 4.0

Mouthfeel: It’s pretty light, maybe a little fluffy, but I wouldn’t call it pillowy. Not like the top tier, but still very good and enjoyable. 4.25

Overall: This is a very enjoyable beer. I wouldn’t go so far as to say it is amazing or fantastic, but it is enjoyable. I’m very appreciative for the opportunity, but I could have just as easily lived without it (i.e. forgettable). 4.00

Crowler. White head with lace. Hazy orange juice color.

Soft, tropical, juicy. Lots of orange, some grapefruit, mango, and papaya. A little lemony. Grassy, earthy hops. Very drinkable and very enjoyable.
