Fukami 深み is our inaugural take on this classic German style expresses an inviting malt character in the form of caramelized, fresh-out-of-the-oven bread crust, toasted walnut and a subtle whisper of molasses. After this Dunkel went through a four hour-long decoction mash and seven week cold maturation period, it evolved into a dexterous, soft-textured, and moreish copper lager that fills us with memories of hours spent in some of Munich's finest biergartens and brauhauses - stein in hand and not a care in the world. Prost!

From a 355ml can dated Sept 2 2025. Poured into a pint glass. A two finger fine tan head on a hazy dark copper. Excellent head retention. Lots of fine lacing.
Faint caramel malts in the nose. Tastes of coffee and toast. It's a bit more roasty and toasty than I would expect from a Munich Dunkel. It finishes dry with a slightly bitter hop finish.
Medium body and carbonation. Overall interesting but a bit off the style.

Appearance: Thumb of head that didn't stick around but did make some mild lace. The body is an amber-brown, closer to red then what I'd expect from a Dunkel. Medium carbonation and cloudy enough to only show silhouette's of your hand.
Smell: Toffee malt, that's it. It's in desperately need of potency here as warming did not help it in the slightest. Nothing offensive, but tame and lame.
Taste: Toffee malt gives way to wood, which turns then to sand and earth that is far too bitter and potent.
Mouthfeel: Lingering dry earth aftertaste, and while the carbonation does try to help out the entire beer, the transitioning is a bitter cliff you plummet off of.
Drinkability: Too soft for a Dunkel roast, but not enough caramel for a more red lager. Hop presences is far too high and this just isn't desirable for a a medium body.
Final Thoughts: I honestly don't know what they were going for here. This appears to have been initially listed as a Dunkelweizen but as far as I can tell this is supposed to be a Dunkel Lager. That said, not something I cared for.
