Collaboration with Ascension Brewing Company

Light, crisp, Mexican lager. Lime Available Upon Request.

Mexican style lager originated when Australian Archduke Maximilian Became Maximilian I, Emperor of Mexico. He brought two master brewers with him, and soon, many German immigrants followed. New World ingredients - Flaked maize, local hops - were incorporated into brewing, and this easy drinking style was born. It goes well with everything on our menu, served up from our scratch kitchen. Come down and see how we make the strange familiar, and the familiar fresh and bold.

16 ounce can into lager glass, canned in 6/2019. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy pale golden straw color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big lemon, cracker, white bread dough, and lightly toasted biscuit; with lighter notes of corn, wood, peppercorn, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and pale malt/grains and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with big strength. Taste of big lemon, cracker, white bread dough, and lightly toasted biscuit; with lighter notes of corn, wood, peppercorn, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of lemon, cracker, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, corn, wood, peppercorn, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great robustness and balance of pale malt/grains and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Fairly crisp/clean finishing. very clean on lager flavors, with minimal fruity corn/yeasty notes. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness and carbonation. Medium-plus carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth and moderately creamy/bready/grainy/sticky mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.3%. Overall this is an excellent Mexican style lager. All around great robustness and balance of pale malt/grains and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth, refreshing, and fairly crisp/clean to drink with the mellowly bitter/drying finish. Very flavorful and not watery for the ABV. Great clean pils malt/grain showcase, with nice noble hop presence/balance for the style. Mild residual sweetness with crisp drying. No overdone on adjuncts. A very enjoyable offering, and impressive style example. No complaints.

Light, easy to drink, definitely refreshing and crisp. Sampled this one on tap at City Built. Looks nice and clear golden, a little white lingering head and spotty lingering lacing. Smells mainly of corn, grain and malt. Tastes similarly - reminds me a little of a Corona, only much more refined and without the need to mask the flavors with a lime slice. Very crisp and flavorful and light. Mild thin mouthfeel with decent carbonation that fades as the beer warms. Refreshing as all hell. Nicely done!
