Inspired by an afternoon in sunny Madrid, White Sangria Hut began as an open fermented saison that was aged in oak for 17 months. It was racked onto Michigan peaches and Pinot Gris grape must from the Willamette Valley and allowed to slowly ferment for two more months before a final introduction to Cara Cara orange peels.

Peachy golden orange tone, a finger of foam, minimal spotty lace.
Aroma is a little muted at this point. Lemon and white grape, peach candy, play-doh.
Taste is much more fruit forward, juicy peach and white grape, oaky vanilla. Tart and supple, light carb and manageable acidity. Feeling a but muted but still mature and tasty.
Didn’t realize this was over 3 years old, missed it back in 2020. Curbside pickups on Lincoln are now a distant memory.
Cheers to Lee McComb and the now defunct mixed-culture program at Half Acre (RIP).

750ml bottle, dated 04.02.2020, poured into a stemless wine glass.
The beer pours a bright golden lemon color, orange and amber hues, cloudy with a thin finger of white head that offers no retention nor lacing. The aroma is nice, lots of peach skin, well developed earthy funk, mineral water, doughy pale grain, soft oak, orange peel and wildflower. The flavors echo the nose well, nice tart citrus and peach juice, fuzzy peach skin with a nice earthy funk, grassy and floral while there is a pleasant oak chewiness, a bit of peppercorn with a grainy finish. The mouthfeel is good, coating and lively medium body with a tart and crisp finish.
Verdict: A nice funky saison from Half Acre. Lots of fruit character in this one as you'd expect but there is a good balance here so that it's not dragged in any one direction.
