Galaxy Double Daisy Cutter steps in-line with Riwaka Double Daisy Cutter. The process of tapping into hop varietals like horror films explore carnage. This is a Rated R Galaxy experience. A massacre of passion fruit, super ripe peach and sweet sweet Sumo orange, with Alpha bitterness clawing its way through pulp. It’s the middle of the night, it’s raining hard, the power is out, there’s a noise in the basement. Why don’t you go see what it is...

Sorry to say, but the initial pour of a pint can into a clear glass liter mug is disappointing. Mostly because the head is a huge starchy mess that recedes irregularly and unattractively. History teaches the culprit is wheat in the wort and it rarely bodes well for the overall. Underneath the white foamy mess is a very opaque orange-amber liquid. It doesn't smell too badly, but wheat doesn't usually make for a pungent aroma when it's in a beer. There's a little fruity, but not citrus hint to the smell, but overall, it's lackluster. The head has now receded, irregularly and without much lacing, to the point where the entire can is now emptied. As suspected, the first tasting sensation is more mouthfeel. This is just too light to the palate for it to be a good IPA, even an American version. The body is like a lager, not an ale. There's only a dose of hops, without a bold hit, nor bittering at the finish. That might make the balance OK, since there's not a solid malt backbone to play against. Overall, this is one dull and disappointing AIPA. One that hides a high ABV fairly well, but brings nothing else, unless you think wheat and oats make better contributions to an ale than barley malt.

16 oz can stamped 12/21/21 SHENANIGANS.
Fluffy off-white head caps a slightly murky orange. The head recedes to a milky ring and scattered cap. Pillowy clouds of lacing. Decent retention.
Nose abounds with peach initially, but almost instantly a dank weedy note pops and tapers back a bit for some onion.
Flavor begins with a melange of tropical and weedy notes. Mango, pineapple, papaya start off. Weed an onion kick in. Some herbal spice, some bread dough, hints of melon and wet grass. There's a lot going on for sure.
Mouthfeel is a tad fluffy, fairly full for style, smooth carbonation, sometimes a bit prickly and finishes with a mild, herbal bitterness.
Overall, I like this. I wanna give it a few more shots because there is so much going on.

L - Typical unfiltered but not completely sea-monkey-see murky Half Acre haze. Decent head dissipated rather quickly.
S - Things get more interesting; immediate impressions of tropical weed, melon, bitter mango whiff, some layers here.
T- where Galaxy DDC shines, a really damn good batch of DDC (a brew I'm not typically crazy about for HA); layers and layers here, hard to discern where the lychee stops, and where citric/cat pee/melon/guava are picking up. There's a ton happening here. I don't know if this my favorite DIPA as the flavors are just complex, never settled. But it works. THe strong point for this version.
F - Good, solid, not overly carbonated and stay lively on the tongue. Great palate impact and saturation. Can feel a little heavy at the end of a pint. Darn good.
O - Maybe my favorite version of the HA DDC that has been released to date. Impressive stuff.

Umm… Ok… Well…
This one is taking Raul for a ride. I wouldn’t exactly say it’s Thelma and Louise going HAM off of a cliff, but I also wouldn’t call it Ryan Gosling doing his thing in “Drive” either. Like, whatever you think is just ok and in the middle of these two things, let’s go there.
So the damn thing poured… hazy? Da hell? OG Daisy Cutter is hella Pale Ale and West Coast looking, but here we have a beer that looks more New England than “Manny being Manny.” But as Raul does, he carries on…And the main man’s tongue is caressed with like ok haze and a bit of astringency. At this point though, Raul is getting a bit perturbed. It’s not that bad and is fairly drinkable, but so is a lukewarm Gatorade after you reach your car after a five hour hike in Joshua Tree.
Whatever.

Pours an almost opaque dirty straw color with over a finger of head. The nose has notes of earth and grass matched with a pungent overrippened fruity quality. The fruity flavors fade into the flavor profile which is not nearly as bold as the nose projects.
