Poured from a can at fridge temp. Pours a nice murky orange with white head. Head clears away pretty quickly. Looks thick!

Nose: Tropical fruit immediately. Mango, papaya, pineapple, and a bit of banana. Citrus peel balances the tropical fruit nicely. This is just a really inviting smell. After several sniffs, I start to pick up a vanilla note. Also getting a grassy/earthy note.

Taste: Wow. This is really good. It starts with tropical fruit and ends with a resin/pine note. There is a spicy kick on the back end as well. Hard to describe, but it comes after the pine. The fruit is a bit different from the nose. Not getting as much mango. More papaya and grapefruit. This is smooth and incredibly well-integrated. For someone who doesn't drink a lot of IPAs, this is one I would get.

Overall and mouthfeel: Creamy mouthfeel. 8% ABV is not detectable. Overall, one of my favorite hazy IPAs.

16oz can served in a tulip. Dated 09/16/21. @FBarber sneaked it onto my porch as part of NBS BIF #14.

Pours a very hazy orange-amber with a medium to small head and moderate to light ongoing carbonation. Smell is beautifully tropical juicy, balanced beautifully by resin.

Taste supports it fully, but resin is more in the forefront with tropical juice singing harmony. It has a hell of a bitter bite, in fact.

Mouthfeel is medium, a cross between creamy and chalky. Overall, this is a very good beer.

Received from @fbarber in the NBS BIF #14. Canned on 9/16/2021. Poured into a pint glass. It pours a murky, dirty golden yellow with a fluffy, milky-colored head and soapy lacing. It boasts a fruity, fragrant nose of lemon, pineapple, tangerine, ripe honeydew, and floral hops. The taste opens with citrus and tropical sweetness. I'm tasting lemon and pineapple from the Simcoe hops, tangerine and melon from the Sabro, red berry and bubblegum from the Mosaic, and earthy, spicy notes which I suspect come from the Spectrum and CTZ. There is also bitter pine and a decided peppery hop burn at the finish. This ale has something for everyone but it works! It has a nice, creamy mouth feel with pleasant carbonation, and the 8% (per the can) ABV gives it good substance. Overall, Super Slug is a very good DIPA - the work of excellent Chicago brewers. It has an attitude and reminds me a lot of the DIPAs brewed by Magnify here in New Jersey.

Maybe my two favorite Chicago breweries collaborating? I have to buy this! I can’t wait to visit the HB taproom (finally) in the old Half acre space. So as for the beer, it’s good but each brewery makes a better DIPA. There’s a bit too much hop burn going on, even after a couple of weeks since canning. The smell is amazing. I like the lack of overly sweetness here though. Too many hazies are too sweet often, and this doesn’t fall into that category. All being said here, I probably wouldn’t buy it again given how much great beer is available weekly.

Tasted in a Spiegelau IPA glass from a one pint can on September 30, 2021. Brewed in collaboration with Hop Butcher For The World. Notes of bitter citrus fruit.
