A pour from a room temperature pint can into a clear glass Imperial pint mug just barely fits. There is a significant biege head, but it's not unreasonable. The aroma is pleasantly of coconut, but it's neither overpowering, nor subtle, a reasonable attribute. The glass lacing is a little irregular and spotty. The color of the brew is just that one shade closer to brown than the usual black coffee brown typical of most porters and stouts. Moving on to the most important part, drinking it. The coconut flavoring is of roasted coconut, not merely an addition of sweet coconut juice. Flavor aside, this drinks very richly and smoothly for a porter. It's almost hard to believe there isn't another softening agent within, because it's that smooth. The combination of roasted malt and presumably roasted coconut makes for a delightful combination. Not too sweet and not overly flavored ; nonetheless, this probably belongs in the desert beer category. Within that, this is one that you would be most likely to have an immediate second. The roasted malt of the porter adds just enough taste of dark chocolate that this ends up tasting like an unsweetened Mounds Bar. It's simple: If you like the taste of dark chocolate covered roasted coconut, you'll really like this one. If you don't, then don't hate it for what it is, since it's true to its intent.
