12oz can, dated 09.25.2024, poured into a stemless wine glass. Enjoyed on 10.31.2024, reviewed from Tasting Journal.
The beer pours a jet black color, super thick, sludgy motor oil with a thick khaki head, little retention and no lacing. The aroma is pleasant, bittersweet chocolate, oaky, warm spirit, soft orange citrus zest, lots of heart grains. The flavors are good, smooth chocolate, rich grains, soft orange liqueur, citrus zest, vanilla, warm bourbon spirit, oak, lingering earthiness. The mouthfeel is good, coating, creamy, smooth, slightly tangy heavier medium body with a big, boozy finish.
Verdict: A curious barrel-aged stout from Half Acre. The orange is a nice focus, it offers a bit of clashing tang at times, but there is a great chocolate quality that makes for a nice beer.

12 ounce can into a snifter. Canned 9/25/24, had 12/31/24.
Pours near black and opaque, with no head and a light oily smear on the glass. Floaty stuff and an oil slick on top. Aromas of bourbon, roasted malt, chocolate, some orange and vanilla, oak, some char. The flavors are a little more distinct: bourbon, roasted malt, chocolate, orange, vanilla, oak when warmed. Smooth, a solid full body, well carbonated.
A great base beer with a solid barrel presence. While there’s also a good amount of orange, it maybe loses some brightness from the roasty base. Best fully warmed, very enjoyable.

8oz Draft pour at the source!
Nice orange presence in this stout. Chocolate covered oranges come to mind first. The orange is balanced yet easily noticed. Honestly I wouldn't want any more orange flavor in this stout because it would've been a little bit too much. They hit the right balance here. Vanilla forward barrel notes that give hits of creamsickle vibes but a dry orange zest instead of sweet orange flesh. Bourbon is there, it's smooth and plays well with the oranges and chocolate. This is at its best near room temperature for all the flavors to do their best work. It's a thick body & drinks easy like all HA stouts do.
