12oz can, dated 02.19.2025, poured into a stemless wine glass. Enjoyed on 03.13.2025, reviewed from Tasting Journal.
The beer pours a very deep jet black color, thick, viscous, oily, with a firm khaki head, about a finger tall that offers good retention and spotted lacing. The aroma is nice, sweet vanilla, tangy apple brandy spirit, interesting wood qualities, earthy, musty, lots of bittersweet chocolate, and stone fruits. The flavors are nice, lots of rich chocolate, stone fruits, apple brandy really comes out, vanilla bean, harsh charred barrel, lots of toasted wood, earthy and very bitter with spicy bourbon spirit. The mouthfeel is good, coating, rich heavy body, smooth but a very dry finish.
Verdict: A very unique and interesting barrel-aged beer from Half Acre. The wood qualities are very bitter and earthy but there is a lot of rich and decadent flavors within and while they aren't quite harmonious, there is definitely space for each dimension of the beer. It works for me, but I can see this as a love it or hate it.

Canned 2/19/25; drank 3/8/25 @ the Yarchives.
Midnight black appearance.
A rough pour yielded a big dark khaki head; a thick curtain of tree-rung lacing remained.
Strawberry ('Oops-all-berries'?!), waffle cone & faint cream notes in the nose. This smells very unique...and awesome!
Medium thick mouthfeel. Waffle cone, strawberry ('Oops-all-berries'?!) & cream flavors up front; wood & faint cinnamon notes on the finish.
Truly unique, easy to enjoy & the best use of Amburana wood in a beer that I've had. Not syrup-y like a lot of Half Acre's barrel aged stouts as well. Bravo to the brewers & blenders.
