Can from the Packie.
Deep golden in color with a decent sized beige head that slowly recedes. Earthy citrus with caramel and dark sugary fruitiness to counter. Bits of alcohol and light toffee round this out nicely.

Picked up a 4-pack of 16oz cans today at The Beer Store (Nashua) for $21.00. Diving into one after a bit of yard work....

Into my Smutty snifter she goes.... It has a dense, opaque russet-brown color, with a decent, 1/4' layer of rocky, light beige foam up top. Can't see what the carbo is doing, but lacing left arrears is solid. Aroma has some caramel and brown sugar, along with rindy, pithy notes. Body is a nice medium to medium-plus, and it is not rough at all on the tongue.

Flavor has more brown sugar and caramel, with some solid malt as a foundation. Also has a hint of vanilla before getting a bit fruity and hoppy. Solid resiny, piney citrus action coats the palate, along with subtle intimations of bourbon lurking in the background. This has a good blend of citrus and malts, with the scales leaning a bit more towards the latter. Goes down scarily well for an 11% ABV brew.... I picked a good one for my first Kettlehead offering... Prosit!

Poured into a 16 oz Snulip glass canned 3/25/20. Pours a murky light brown with a 2 plus finger sticky off white head that leaves nice thick streaks of lace as it slowly settles. 4.25

Smell is dark fruity esters, brown sugar, caramel, toffee, oaked vanilla, and a hint of bourbon very pleasant. 4.5

Taste follows fig, dates, brown sugar, vanilla, toffee, caramel, almonds, and healthy dose of oaked bourbon lingers on the palate, stuff is complex and warms your entire soul. 4.5

Mouthfeel is bigger than medium, maybe a touch dry as you would expect from this style, gentle carbonation, and at 11% extremely approachable. 4.5

Overall Kettlehead took its time brewing this and it shows, in my opinion this is a great American Barrel Aged Barleywine that will leave a long lasting impression on fans of the style. This is what craft beer is all about. A slow sipper that gives you a new flavor after each sip. 4.5
