Happy New Year - Happy New Beer! I have actually had a couple of cans of this before, but wasn't in a rating mood then. So, here we go....
Poured into a large sniftah, it's a rich, very dark mahogany color. Had a smidge of scattered carbo, and a thin, fine, creamy beige head. Most of the suds is at the rim, with light lacing. Aroma is malty and rich. Has some toffee, caramelized brown sugar, caramel, and a distinct rye whiskey character. The body is thick and chewy, with a smooth and creamy feel on the tongue.
Flavor is lovely, with lots more rich, semisweet maltiness. Toffee, brown sugar, figs, vanilla, and caramel combine in a lovely mix of savory palate pleasers. Lingering beneath these tasty notes is a nice layer of slightly spicy rye bourbon. Like Batch 1 of Fourteen Forty, this beer is supremely tasty and quite drinkable. Prosit!!
