Sampling a cold 32 oz crowler purchased at the brewery in August. I am pouring into my large snifter for the tasting. Crowler as been in my fridge since I brought it home after trip in New Hampshire.
The beer pours a dark cola brown with no light passing through my glass. A dense khaki colored head of about 1 cm foams up and fades to a thin edge layer. this edging sticks around throughout the sampling.
Aroma is a bit of chocolate and toffee with a lot of bourbon. Faint hints of vanilla and brown sugar, but bourbon notes carry the day.
First sip reveals a medium to lighter body, with smooth texture and fine gentle carbonation. Lighter body is something I think is okay for a baltic porter, I need to remind myself that this is not an imperial stout.
Flavor is a little roast and chocolate, some vanilla again and good dose of bourbon carrying through to the finish. Although it is only bourbon flavor as I dont get any warmth or peppery booze bite here. Never any hop presence either.
The beer drinks pretty easy for an 8.2% treat.
I enjoy this one and would drink it again if its available next time we are in New Hampshire.
