$5 @ Cherry Hill Wine, Liquor & Beer, Cherry Hill, NJ
Notes via stream of consciousness: This is labeled as a "GAMMA RAY IPA" but I have no idea what that means. i know what a gamma ray and how it comes about but that has nothing to do with beer. Anyway, it's poured a very cloudy yellow-gold body beneath a short head of white foam. It looks like a glass of pulpy orange juice. The aroma is bright, sweetish, fruity, and resinous. It makes me think of Mosaic hops with a berry-like note but who knows. There's also some peach, melon, citrus, and herbal like mint. On to the taste then... I think everything found in the nose is still there, yeah, and there's even more to it. I'm getting some mango, papaya, orange, grapefruit, passionfruit, and guava. There's more resin/pine to it than the aroma lets on, mainly appearing in the finish. The malt is sweet, and fairly basic, but with some oat flavor, and I'm assuming there's some wheat in there as well. There might even be a touch of honey malt. There's not a lot of bitterness to it but there is a touch of alcohol, not much, and some welcome "hop burn". Along with its resinous properties it manages to finish fairly dry. In the mouth it feels almost full bodied because of all of the extra proteins and a moderate, fine-bubbled carbonation. Of course that lower carbonation probably hurt it regarding head retention but the lacing is still good. I really like this but I also have to admit that Mosaic hops are still my favorite. That won't sway me to score it any higher, it still has to be a well-balanced, well-rounded, and well-brewed beer but it does perk up my tastebuds. What else is in there, I don't know but I'm going to guess Citra. There's more to it than that though. Regardless, whatever they've done with the hops that's only part of it, and OK, perhaps the main part, but they're not the whole show and this is great!

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
