Have had a shitload of this already since it came out last November, both in cans at home and on draft at Kettlehead on Main... time to review, while watching some college football....
Pours a dark, dense, opaque brown, like crude oil. Can't tell about any carbo, though the head is tan, thin and fine, with light lacing. Aroma has some dark choco and coffee from the RIS portion of the blend. There's also some caramel and toffee, and notes of figs and raisins. Body is almost thick, almost chewy, while the feel is smooth as silk.
Flavor is where you can find flavors from both the RIS and Barleywine which have been blended together. There's some dark choco, dates and figs, caramel and toffee.... plus subtle notes of whiskey lurking in the background. Also has a smidge of earthy hopping in the semi-sweet finish. This one is a real winner... great job, Kettlehead! Prost!!
