Bought this pint at SF's City Beer and it is part of 7 Stills' Hype Can Series and is noted as Release #35.
A pleasant grissette that slacks thirst and prepares me to eat... (Achieves what grisettes historically did for Belgian miners.)
Looks pale without much foam and no swirling protein. But that's OK because Smells tell me I'm going to get some refreshing fruits, like apples. Tastes introduce some nice hops to balance the sweet malts. Then, the hops take over and finish with a nice dry. In my mouth, this grissete scrubs my tongue for what ever I've eaten and makes it ready for more.
Not a pretty grisette, but an effective one it is. They also chose a good style to be their first Belgian, because the grisette depends less on the yeast (hard for micros to get right) and depends more on spunk.
This is my second new brewery in the Bayview neighborhood, the only place SF land is not over-priced. (And I'm told there are other micros popping up nearby.) Seems like beer is proving to be a good urban renewal strategy once again. Seven Stills has not opened their Bayview taproom, but they have a nice little gastro-pub going in the Outer Sunset.
