473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Apr 12 2022 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a foggy golden-yellow colour, topped with one finger of frothy, foamy white head that seeps off within two or three minutes' time. A creamy collar remains behind, with an attractive ring of sticky lace tossed about in the process; looks good to me. Pineapple and peach on the nose, with hints of grapefruit, berries, cedar and lime zest.
It's not bad at all - that coconut note (from the Sabro) bugged me on the first few sips, but afterwards it kind of fell back and blended in. I'm getting apricot, orange and pineapple, with hints of passion fruit, berries and lime. The coconut is most noticeable on the back end, tangled up with floral, resiny hops and a very light pithy bitterness; hints of coconut and stone fruit dissipate into the aftertaste. Light in body, with average carbonation levels that gently prickle the surface of the palate; feels smooth and a little fluffy, with excellent drinkability.
Final Grade: 3.59, a passable B grade. Beached isn't half bad, and I wouldn't discourage other BAs from giving it a try. One of those instances where the beer itself is structurally fine - and truth be told, it does stand out from other Ontario session IPAs to some extent - but the flavours are just not really up my alley. That's mostly because of the Sabro hops, which are not a personal favourite due to the coconut suntan lotion vibe they sometimes give off, including here. Give it a try and decide for yourself.
