473ml can served cold into a pint glass. LCBO purchase for around $3.75 CDN.
Appearance - Pretty clear, rich golden color with lots of bubbles. Two fingers of foamy white head rest on top and have pretty good staying power.
Smell - Grassy aroma with a touch of citrus mixed in and medium intensity.
Taste - Full flavored pils, with grassy flavors some subtle fruit backing up and a sprinkle of zesty citrus. A little bread beyond that.
Mouthfeel - Clean and crisp with medium carbonation. A bit juicier on the finish.
Overall - A updated take on the classic German pils, Motel California didn't knock my socks off, but a tasty well brewed pilsner nonetheless is a beer worth trying.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Mar 14 2023 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a fairly clear golden-blonde colour, with nearly two fingers of fluffy, soapy white head seated atop. It withers and fades within five minutes or so, gracing the perimeter of the glass with a messy swath of lace as it's eroded down to a patchy, lumpy cap and wide, frothy collar. The aroma is subtly fruity, offering up hints of citrusy, floral hops, melon and grapefruit, with suggestions of bready pale malts.
It's a palatable lager, but the 'pilsner' elements are overshadowed by the dry hops. Grainy, bready pale malts share the limelight with grapefruit, melon and (eventually) some floral, spicy hops. Moderate bitterness for a pilsner, with a fruity conclusion that leads into a citrusy aftertaste which dries off. Light in body, with crisp, lively carbonation that lends a proper bite to the lager's light, refreshing feel. Super easy to chug back, and tasty enough that a second glass would not be refused.
Final Grade: 3.8, a B+. Motel California is described as a West Coast Pilsner, whatever that is. In this case, it's basically a dry-hopped pilsner, so my gut instinct is to lump it in with those "Italian" pilsners... but to be honest it drinks more like an India Pale Lager, at least IMO. Confusing, geeky beer taxonomy debates aside, this dry-hopped lager would likely benefit from a more forceful pilsner malt presence, but it's still pretty good the way it is. Worth a spin, especially if you're in the market for a hoppy summer lager.

can from LCBO - pours a hazed light gold with a 1 finger white cap....aromas of juicy wet hops and some malt undertones...flavor follows aroma with juicy chewy wet hops and pilsner ,malts in the background...long clean finish where malts and hops converge ...nice juicy hop bite in the finish....smooth, conditioned but with sharp hop character what a decent hybrid

Poured a 473ml can into a pint glass. A one finger bubbly white head on a clear straw.
Grapefruit hop smells.
Malty flavour.
Medium body and carbonation. A malt forward pilsner. Leaning towards an Italian style pilsner.

Great mash up of two of my favorite beer styles. West Coast IPA and Pilsner. Hoppy, pleasant, delicious.
