473 mL can from the brewery; dated May 2 2024 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a clear straw yellow with some initial chill haze; situated atop is about a finger of loose, soapy white head that fades within a couple of minutes. A modest collar is the sole surviving remnant; minimal lace production. Muted, hop-focused aroma that includes hints of lemon, stone fruit and just a wisp of mango.
It tastes ok - not a lot of depth here, but I suppose for 2.5% it's got some decent flavour going on. A little bit of graininess supports notes of citrusy lemon and orange, with shades of apricot and grassy, floral hops developing near the end of the sip. Mildly fruity finish that trends dry. Light in body, with middling carbonation levels and a crisp, smooth mouthfeel; thirst-quenching and easy to toss back.
Final Grade: 3.5, a B grade. I've proclaimed my lack of interest in session IPAs on many occasions, but to be fair, some of them do actually manage to impress me. Rise House Micro IPA didn't, but there's nothing inherently wrong with it, either. Given how low in alcohol this is, and the fact that it's pretty darn refreshing on a hot July evening, it does have some practical use as a brew you can drink on the golf course, or after mowing the lawn - i.e. during the day, when you don't really want a buzz but still want to wet your whistle with some fizzy yella suds.
