473 mL can from the brewery; dated 04/07/2024 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a relatively clear amber-orange colour, graced with one finger of foamy, off white-tinged head that lasts for three minutes or so. A thin collar remains, with sparse lace deposition; looks normal enough. The aroma is malty, with notes of caramel, bread, toasted grains and a hint of nuttiness.
It's a decent-tasting amber lager, with a fruity twang that reminds me of fresh-squeezed apple cider - a subtle background presence to be sure, but it's there. There's also toasted bread & grains, with light caramel sweetness, sweet apples and just a touch of tea leafy, earthy hops. Finishes mildly sweet, with caramel and toasted grains briefly persisting into the aftertaste before fading. Light in body, with moderate carbonation that gently prickles the surface of the palate, adding a little bit of bite to this lager's slightly watery mouthfeel. Very crushable - I could totally drink a few of these in a row.
Final Grade: 3.58, a B grade. Rally is a fairly average amber lager with no real surprises. It's sweet, but not too sweet - maybe a little fruitier than expected for a lager, but all in all I'm not inclined to complain about this one much, if at all. The watery mouthfeel might be its weakest point, but it does seem to make for a more drinkable-than-average example of this style. I would consider buying this beer again, and wouldn't discourage other BAs from trying it out.
