At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a pint glass. From their IPA Mix Pack 2 at my favourite LCBO at Tecumseh Mall in nearby Windsor. Canned July 2/25. My 7th beer from the Chatham, Ontario brewery, and 6th for 2025. With Sundae the cat...

473 mL can from the LCBO, included in the Sons of Kent IPA Boombox Vol. 2 mixed pack. Dated Feb 7 2025 and served barely chilled.
Pours a foggy golden-yellow colour with a small amount of sandy sediment settling out. Gathering on the surface is an inch of tight, foamy white head that melts away within three or four minutes, reduced to a thick, frothy collar and thin cap; great lace deposition. Grapefruit and pine on the nose, with hints of orange, passion fruit and earthy, floral hops. Sure smells like a westy.
A quality old school American IPA. It starts off fruity and citrusy, with notes of orange, apricot, berries and passion fruit soon giving up ground to grapefruit by mid-sip. Pithy, with piney, floral hops and an earthy bitterness rounding out the back end; mildly warming, with a slightly resiny aftertaste that fades to off-dry. Medium-full in body, with gentle, tiny-bubbled carbonation that weakly nudges the surface of the palate; feels smooth and soft, and shockingly easy to toss back at 7.1%. I could easily drink another one of these.
Final Grade: 4.08, an impressive A-. I'm not going to claim that Sun Setter is an original or particularly unique IPA - after all, these three hop strains are exceedingly commonly used in IPAs in general. Fortunately, they combine quite well together, and why mess with what already works? This is probably my favourite pale ale in this mixed pack, but keep in mind I am kinda biased towards west coast IPAs (vs. hazy NEIPAs), so your mileage may vary. If this makes its way into the LCBO as a single can, I will be buying it on a weekly basis.
