473 mL can from the LCBO, included in the Sons of Kent IPA Boombox (Vol. 3). Dated Mar 9 2026 and served slightly chilled.

Pours hazy and translucent, its yellow-hued body crowned with one finger of frothy, foamy white head that fades within a couple of minutes. A thin cap and collar remain on the surface, with decent lace production after the first few sips; looks fine so far. Passion fruit dominates the nose, though further inspection reveals hints of honeydew melon, peach, pineapple juice and lychee.

Pretty tasty - again, the passion fruit is what immediately stands out, but the hop flavours are sturdy enough to shine on through. Pineapple, peach and grapefruit also come through, with hints of melon and wheaty malts adding further depth. Not a lot of development beyond that: more passion fruit and stone fruit round out the tail end, with citrusy suggestions of grapefruit dissipating into a juicy aftertaste. Medium-full in body, with gentle carbonation and a soft, plush mouthfeel; solid drinkability.

Final Grade: 3.87, a B+. Fruited IPAs are generally not my bag - though I suppose it really depends on the fruit - but in any event, I wasn't really expecting much out of Space Cowboy. Fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised with this brew: the passion fruit flavours are prominent without hogging the spotlight, while the supporting hop flavours are highly complementary. It's a juicy, cohesive hazy pale ale that I bet would really hit the spot when patio season finally arrives. I'd consider buying this again as a single, if I were in the mood for a fruity IPA.
