Hazelnut Sappuccino – Coffee Barleywine – 10.0% ABV: Starting with our sweet caramel-froward barleywine we tried to create a coffee-house classic, the hazelnut latte! To accomplish this we aged it on 180 lbs of toasted hazelnuts, a pound of Madagascar vanilla beans, and 20 lbs of light-roast coffee beans.

Canned 3/3/22. Pour out of the can is a clear reddish brown and very similar to root beer before settling into a much darker brown. Half a finger of somewhat short-lived khaki colored head.
Aroma is fairly muted. Little bit of hazelnut and some faint coffee. Mild alcohol.
On the tongue this has some nice hazelnut and caramel notes combining with notes from the base beer. Coffee is very, very faint, and the vanilla even fainter. Somewhat light bodied, with the 10% alcohol well hidden.
Overall, a good beer for a cool fall day of sitting on the couch watching football (Go Birds!)

(16 oz can, roasted on 2/24, canned on 03/03/22; purchased at brewery as part of variety 4-pack... shared between two Trillium tulips)
L: clear, medium-brown colored liquid; not much head... keeps thin collar; doesn't really lace
S: hazelnut chocolate bar, caramel out the ass, nearing toffee, hint of medium-roast coffee... not much overt booze
T: huge, round caramel balls, malty malty nectar... coffee and hazelnut providing toasty, roasty accents... malt character insane, on par with / reminiscent of the Gouden Carolus line... alcohol apparent, but mellow af... once I recalled there being vanilla in this, it's very much apparent, as a pervasive infusion in the middle layers
F: body is round as a mound; plump, heaving plushness... very subtle burn simmering at the back of the palate
O: the flavorings weren't overboard but just at the edge of snuffing out the perceptions of the malt character... big flavors and rich expressiveness... pretty darn fantastic and easy to have more and more of; worth buying many of for sharing (2003)
