Scottish Inspired 60 Shilling/Scottish Amber Ale – Mike’s mother traveled in Europe for a few months after graduating college. Her friends were heading back to the US, but Aunt Edna sent a letter with a little cash and a note to “Stay as long as you can.” During that extra time she made new friends and saw new places. Hopefully this malty session ale allows you to stay a little longer enjoying time with friends and family!

There aren't enough Scotch / Scottish ales in the world... Slight crisp bone white colored head with limited retention... Fives way to a slight lopsided lacing... Color is a glowing pale caramel with some ruby highlight when backlit... Nose of overly ripened dark fruits, brown sugar and a subtle nuttiness... Very inviting... Palate is true to the aroma but with a little less pizazz... Some malty bread notes rise to the surface on the finish... On the lighter side of medium bodied... Briskly carbonated and sturdy... Nice beer and no real complaints but a bit more heft on the palate would make this really really good...

(16 oz can, canned on: 04/03/23; purchased cold single from the brewery last week... poured into my Belhaven pub pint)
L: crystal-clear, amber liquid bordering on tawny... tall foam build on the inital pour... very little lace; I'm fine with that
S: bready and caramel-kissed, though not in an 'adjunct' syrup way; almost single-malt Scotch like in its maltiness, and I don't think that's an exaggeration... definitely accented with the right herbal and dried fruit tones... excellent expressions here, though maybe a touch too much concentrated sugar creeping in as it goes
T: the flavors initially follow the aromas, but very quickly the hops and toasted edges of the grain assert themselves; a flash of the caramel in the finish, but that's soon replaced by earthy-herbal bitterness, a soft acidic bite, a wash of apple, ending with a lingering, lightly-spiced (brown) sugar cookie toast... wonderfully dry, on point... a touch too toasty
F: mildly gassy, and I'll take it; body is light with medium drag... bit of friction from the toast/bitter elements, flaring off the residuals, contributing to the lift... I wouldn't add or take anything away; perfect
O: a lovely ale; I wish I'd grabbed more... seems goofy, but the aftertaste reminds me of (several region) single-malt Scotch flavors, which I certainly enjoy, but I did a 2 week trip to Scotland years ago and drank a lot of beer and never tasted Scotch or anything like this in any of the draft or cask pours... hits better than nitro Belhaven (2217)

Clear amber, white head, ok retention, spotty lace
BIG Toffee, biscuit, touch of roast.
Big toffee flavor, biscuit,
Medium bodied and appropriately carbonated
I'd much prefer this in the fall, but it's a good beer.

16 ounce can poured into a Tulip.
Canned 4/3/23
The red-hued copper liquid pours very clear before hazing a bit in the glass. The full two finger head is persistent and the dense foam is colored an almost khaki off-white. A lively glass of beer.
The malty aroma is a nice mix of bread and bread crust, corn and earthy hop notes. The tasting is balanced slightly to malty and offers a lot of flavors. Toasted malt and earthy hops lead with notes of bread crust, herbal tea, caramel and as it warms corn and woody hops emerge. Sweetness and bitterness are moderate. The sweetness tapers off to a dry hoppy finish. Medium bodied with an overall soft feel before sharpening up at the finish. As it warms it becomes more creamy.
Not a style I have had much experience with but this seems on point, either way it’s a good glass of beer.
