IPA with Coconut, Thai Basil, Serrano, Galangal, and Lime Leaf Added

Like many countries (including the US) Thailand engages in culinary diplomacy. They spend money to standardize and improve Thai restaurants all over the world. Their goal is to boost tourism and increase positive opinions of their county. It worked on us apparently… we borrowed the flavors of green curry for this IPA! It’s a little spicy, but the focus is on the beautiful aromatics of galangal (a cousin of ginger), lime leaf, Thai basil, and coconut!

(16 oz can, canned on 08/22/23' purchased cold single at the brewery two days ago... poured into my Sapwood stemless wine glass)

L: cloudy, pale mustard yellow-colored liquid; frothy, fringy foam, falling fast into rocky chunks along the walls... looks like a hazy, though the foam has a peculiar pockmarked contour... keeps a long collar and misty cap, lacing a little

S: green, earthy aromas at its core, serrano spice having an outside (forward) edge, coconut copra-heavy underbelly... certain fruity background tones, hops and lime leaf I'm sure to blame... herb/spice beer character threatens the IPA credibility; exotic, mildly intoxicating nonetheless

T: fruity oatmeal and coconut curry blast, little back end bitterness or 'hoppy' flavors, though some soft spicy phenolic-ish sensations bloom in the aftertaste... a few sips in and some nutty (flavored) oatmeal develops and lingers... thankfully not too spicy, well balanced against the other flavors; fruity-milky macaroon all day; touch of malty sweetness, but short of cookie confectionary

F: nectar texture, but thins and subtly singes on the outs... a seductive kellerbier, but not a killer clean ale... malt milk, but magnificently maligned with measured heat and bitter bollocks

O: had a sample on tap at the brewery prior to buying this; didn't get a response on hop variety inquiry... I suppose it does have a (rather undeniable) base hazy IPA, but I'd personally hesitate labeling this as an India Pale Ale, but a Thai-PA?! hmm... that's got some marketability... this is essentially a hybrid hazy and spiced beer; fantastic yum (2231)
