Poured from a can at fridge temp. Pours black with minimal tan head. The nose is smokey, tar, black chocolate, roasted malts, burnt toffee, and dark bread.
The taste is nice and malty. Whopper, chocolate, tobacco, roasted malts, biscuits. Very nicely done.
Mouthfeel is light with a mild chocolate aftertaste.

Bought from CraftShack. (How else would a Long Beach micro get to Chicago?)
While I was adding this beer, I found close to 10 breweries who brewed a Schwartz with the same name. Clever. But which survived? More important, can this one be re-released? Probably not, although I enjoyed it. It shows all the characteristics of the Schwartz: dark Looks, malty Smells, balanced Tastes with dry finish, medium-mouthed. Decent accompaniment to lunch. Beyond that, why should surfers like it? I wouldn't know.
For my micro-review of Long Beach Beer Lab.... Prolific. 213 beers (per UnTappd) in 5 years. Their Belgian-inspired seem interesting, and I would have one of those next. After surveying Long Beach's website, they remind me a lot of my neighborhood's "fermentation center", Middle Brow. Both brew unusual beers that go well with food, both make their own pizza, both bake their own bread and both sell other products they think are cool. Does this mean that LA is finally catching up with Chicago in terms of culture? I hope not.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
