like their belgian pale that we very much enjoyed, this beer presents itself as a very simple take on the style, but where i think that reserved nature was flattering in the belgian pale, it seems to leave a void here. this is a little too clean and tidy, overly belgian on the yeast front, and lacking the earthy grainy or rustic yeasty complexion i like in the best examples of the style. there is a little haze to this, but it doesnt taste or feel very wheaty, pale and simple and light instead, without much body or persistent cereal presence. the yeast is fruity from the esters, green pear and white grape and orange peel all come to mind, familiar but a little out of balance. some dry floral hops on the back end give it a little more complexity, but this is really missing the rustic farmhouse element for me. being lighter bodied and well carbonated makes it pretty well drinkable, but this really isnt interesting enough to hold my attention for more than one of them. we enjoyed our time at trade, but this was our least favorite of the two we had here.
