From Beermiscuous Lakeview, my main source for Chicago's micros.
The can suggested pouring into a Scotch Ale glass (which I'm ashamed to say that I did not have.) So, I did my next best by using my Samuel Smith's nonic from across-the-border Yorkshire.
In the glass, it Looked fine; decent foam and the lace stuck around. Smells are mostly malt and I rarely detect more from this style... although this does have a smoked, peaty Kick. Tastes are fully balanced (but then, I'm a malt-head and this is a delight for PLUs, People Like Us.) If the Wee Heavy is the Scottish rendition of the English barleywine, then in this analogy I'd consider Kick a bit thin on the syrup variable. But in terms of the malt bill, this Kick has got it covered.
OA... Urban Labs is one of those many Chicago micros that I feel I should visit..... but I am faced with the challenge of too many local micros in so little time. That said, Urban Labs makes it easier on me as they have a bottle store instead of a taproom... and I rarely go to bars. Urban Labs also choose the startup model that does not start with a taproom, which is important in the middle of a pandemic. But, Urban Labs seems dedicated and I hope to visit them as early as possible next year.
