==================================
it was a tasty cranberry saison with a strawberry-blonde pour; lots of carbonation. bready malts, cranberry tartness. dry finish. no farmhouse funk really....a light, refreshing saison with cranberry bitterness. good stuff

The Craison pours out a bright clear golden yellow with a bright white head perched atop it that leaves a trail o' lacing. There is quite a bit of yeast in the bottle. The beer clouds up in a hurry after the first pour.

Bretty funk brings forth a grass/hay quality to the nose. A touch fruity with lemon and cranberry. Was expecting more berry based on the name.

The taste is musty and grass. Little kick of bitterness and hop flavor. The berry is again super light in its presence. Dry, light bodied, and has a prickly carbonation.

More of a straight up saison. Would have enjoyed more cranberry but whatcha gonna do?

Appearance is slightly hazy straw color. One finger head fades to a ring.

Aroma is fruity, Almost Belgian tripel like. A little bananna, pepper, clove.

A little tart and funky. Brett may be at play here. Lemon notes and dry earthy malt grain compete for attention. Dry spiciness on the finish with faint acidic bitterness.

Light, dry mouthfeel. Effervescent.

Overall, it could use some more core flavor to balance out the residual characteristics like the tartness, funk, and britterness, not that it's really bitter. I also expected some cranberry notes, but there's none. In the end, though, its worth trying as the tartness is pleasant.

Reviewed blind as part of Blind BIF 7, courtesy of ShogoKawada.

A - Very hazy, bright golden yellow, with a wonderful, snow white, long-lasting head. Lots of chunky lacing down the sides. Looks pretty damn good.

S - Some nice grainy, bready malt with Belgiany esters and a touch of slightly dry funk. There's something else I can't place, but it's certainly not a bad flavor.

T - Hmm, interesting. That grainy malt backbone is still there, but very much in the background. Some dry funkiness (maybe brett?), perhaps some oak or other wood influence, and subtle fruity sweetness.

M - Just a little thinner than I'd like. A prickle of carbonation. On the whole, though, it seems fitting.

Overall, I definitely like this beer, and I'm not sure I've had anything like it. I'm probably embarassingly off the mark, but I think this is a Belgian pale ale with a little brett influence, aged (but not too long) in wine barrels.

Non-blind thoughts:
This is a tasty and pretty unique saison. I'm not sure I've ever had a beer made with cranberries, and it threw me for a loop trying to figure out what it was.
