Gjærkauk (pronounced "yahr-kah-ook") is our modernized homage to Norse ales of the past. Brewed with malted rye, caramel rye, smoked barley and fermented with our house Norwegian farmhouse yeast. Gjærkauk is a beautifully unique malt-forward beer with strong notes of toasted pumpernickel, dried fruit, and cherry wood smoke. Perfect for the upcoming autumn & winter nights by the fire.

Appearance:
Pours a light, cola brown with little clusters of white bubbles clinging to the sides of the glass. Its snowy head is truncated by big domed bubbles that end up looking like icebergs in a choppy, arctic sea.

Bouquet:
A cozy aroma of fresh-brewed, Colombian light roast. Behind this extra tall coffee, you’ll find caramel and rye engaged in intimate conversation.

Feel:
A medium body that playfully dunks your tongue—willingly or not—into a fizzing cloud of carbonation. When the cloud passes, the ale finishes clean and light.

Taste:
Here, that Colombian light roast takes on a sultry, smoky aspect while the quiet chatter of caramel and rye suddenly becomes animated. Balanced and bittersweet with a sleepy backdrop of malts.

Look: It pours copper with a tan head. Head retention is very good.

Smell: It has initial aromas of caramel and rye. There are some smoke notes with cherry and light dried fruits.

Taste: It has rye and caramel flavors with some smoke in the background. There are also cherry elements with some dark fruits with are very low.

Feel: It has a medium high feel to it. The smoke is light in the finish.

Overall, it has a very nice rye element with caramel. The other elements add complexity in support.

Slightly hazy copper, firm white head with good retention and lace
Intense malty and smoky aroma
Nice upfront smoke, some spice, bready malts, smoke lingers
Medium-full mouthfeel, medium carbonation
I dig it.
