This Imperial Coffee Stout is brewed in collaboration with 3 Sons Brewing Co. We started with full bodied base and then conditioned the beer on in-house roasted hazelnuts, Tahitian vanilla, hazelnut coffee, and maple syurp. The result reminds us of decadent breakfast style stout that is the perfect morning sipper.

Drank from a 1 pint .9 fl. oz. / 500 ml bottle purchased at High Side, Fairfax, VA
Served in a tulip
The beer poured a deep, dark, murky brown and was topped by a thin, khaki colored crown that quickly dissolved. A fine ringlet encircled the liquid. There was no lacing whatsoever.
The nose was fantastic. Coffee notes came through big time. Freshly brewed coffee with a heavy dose of cream and sugar perhaps. Hazelnut was also quite prominent. Loads of vanilla too. This definitely reminded me of a Starbucks latte with a few squirts of both hazelnut and vanilla syrup. There was a subtle maple presence and a touch of semisweet chocolate as well.
The flavor profile was similar to the nose but significantly boozier. Creamed and sugared coffee notes again came through strong. Loads of hazelnut and vanilla as well. Caramel and burnt sugar notes were also apparent. Sweet overall but not excessively so. Boozy notes kicked in hard as the beer moved along the palate. Touch of roastiness on the back end and the finish. More lingering booze and sweetness after the swallow.
The mouthfeel was medium-full bodied for the style. Creamy, fluffy and slick on the palate. The liquid contained a fine, fairly zippy effervescence that gave the beer a unexpected fizziness initially, but this mellowed with time. After a few sips, the sugars in the beer deposited a sticky film on my lips.
This was my first time trying a Mortalis stout, and it was definitely a winner. The adjuncts were prominent but not overdone, as were the booze and the sweetness. I can only imagine how good a barrel-aged version of this might be.

Poured moderately hard from a tall bottle into a snifter glass, forming basically no head on a deep brown body. Smell is strong, sweet hazelnut. Taste is maple up front, followed soon by hazelnut. A bit of vanilla in the background, not a whole lot of coffee flavor. Sweet all the way through. Medium to thick bodied with a mild bite of carbonation. Excellent dessert stout, not sure I'd want it for breakfast haha. One of the better hazelnut stouts.

This one pours a very dark black color, with a small head and a little bit of lacing.
This smells like sweet hazelnut coffee creamer, creamy vanilla, dark chocolate, and maple.
This is definitely sweet, but would be excellent in smaller doses. The hazelnut is done well, and kind of just melds with the coffee into a sort of high quality sweet latte type flavor. There’s a little bit of maple, and a nice sweet creamy vanilla flavor as well. There’s a touch of roast but it doesn’t do much to offset the sweetness.
This is medium bodied, and very creamy, with a little bit more carbonation than I would have expected. It’s very drinkable with very little booziness.
This is pretty solid stuff, but maybe somewhere in the middle tier for Mortalis stouts.

Sweet hazelnut coffee and hint of vanilla maple syrup nose on this one! Yum! Great nose! Taste follows with a maple syrup and hazelnut coffee finish. This is very well-balanced between the different notes. Just a nice and decadent and tasty pastry stout. Outstanding!

Brownish black with a brown head. Hazelnut and coffee combo leads the nose with impressions of biscotti and stroop waffle, vanilla, dark chocolate brownie batter and light maple round out. Taste is way sweeter with the emergence of the maple and vanilla's strength, slams into the hazelnut and coffee, brightening them considerably, chocolate fudge and playful marshmallow undergirds it all. Feel is pillowy and thick, velvet smooth, terrifying how little booze is detected. I would say a dessert stout instead of a breakfast beer, but to each their own
