So there's a previous review that finds the yeast problematic (or lack thereof) and at first glance I was in agreement, as the yeast seemed out of place for me, but it turns out its kind of the opposite for me, I thought the yeast was too much as opposed to being non existent.
Anyhoo, pours standard bearer golden color with ample clarity to it. Big head, 1.25" scaled up from beer fest (Anderson Valley) taster glass. The aroma had a pretty pungent phenolic yeast that overpowered the grain or nuance beyond a dose of peppercorn and clove.
The taste brought on the strong yeast profile as well. Dry, clove, peppercorn, spice rack, do you wanna hit it? The grain and carbonation fit the refreshing powerful profile as evidenced by the sizeable head and continuous bubble-age going on. Swingtown is a classic. The seemingly excessive bitterness in a saison wasn't my jam. I'd call this a rare kind of miss for Urban Roots, prefer almost anything else of theirs, even if this wasn't bad, just merely passable for my tastes.

Can from John's Marketplace.
A clear light orange with a dense white head with excellent retention and lacing. The nose is an intense, spicy, perfumey and floral yeast expression, moderately phenolic and quite spicy. Mild straw like cracker malt presence. The palate opens spicy and phenolic with floral notes, pepper, mild earth and dust and loads of phenols, spicy and fragrant. The mid-palate settles into a softly spicy note with light fruit notes - pear and a little apple. Drying on the finish, phenolic and mildly bitter. Great stuff.

I like that they tried to make the classic saison... and came close, except for the yeast.
Because they put a lot of effort into their food menu (much of it smoked), they built a saison that cleanses the palate well.
Tomorrow's Verse Looks like a nice clear golden, albeit not much swirling protein (it needs a yeast.)
Smells really lack how saison's multi-grains becoming a fruit medley (again, it's the yeast.)
Tastes are balanced. Again, I think they don't want the saison's complexities to upstage their food. (Typically, less complex beers pair better with smoked foods.) So, I cannot fault Urban roots for trying to make a saison work with a smoked menu.
I give Urban Roots some good OA Hugs because they seem dedicated to the whole brewery/kitchen interface in ways that lots of other young brewers have not yet grasped. Gook luck to more Urban Roots improving Sacto.

The beer pours out a medium hazy dark golden color, with a thin white head------------- the aromas are of clove, lesser cinnamon, woody notes and canned peaches---------------- the flavors are of clove, cinnamon, bubblegum, canned peaches and Apple pie, the beer had a med mouthfeel with a crisp finish----------------- overall this beer was very good - this is not my favorite style of saison I prefer the more dry and less spiced versions, but with that said this was really well made, it was nice and spicy with some sweet fruity esters coming through wile still finishing crisp-------
