Glass: Melvin 14-oz. Spiegelau IPA glass
Price: $2.99
From: Windmill Farms in Del Cerro (San Diego), Calif.
Purchased: July 9, 2020
Consumed: July 26, 2020
Misc.: Canned on July 1, 2020
Spent way too much at Windmill Farms and then at North Park Beer Company, but happy with my selections. Thought I hadn’t this one, but after further review I gave a taster of it a 4.00 with Nick on Feb. 22, 2018. Can description had it as, “Huge pear and peach notes accompanied with bright citrus aromas and a crisp, dry finish.” No mention of hops.
Poured a medium yellow clear color with four fingers of rocky white head. Lots of fast moving bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass at fast speeds. World-class spiderweb foamy lacing. Almost perfect retention. (Sight - 4.75)
First thing in the smell that I got that there seemed to be a lot of hops. Initially couldn’t really pick one out. For flavors I got pine, resin, grapefruit, wet grass, melon, trashy spoiled fruit, viney berry, lemon zest and black pepper. Not quite as good from the can, but added some earthy malt. (Smell - 3.75)
Tasted a little better than the nose, but followed it for the most part. In order got pine, dank resin, grapefruit rind, melon, trashy spoiled fruit, dry grass, Juicy Fruit, viney berry, lemon zest and black pepper. No mention of hops, but I would think Simcoe, Cascade and Mosaic, among others. (Taste - 3.75)
Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Bitter, abrupt finish. (Feel - 4.00)
Not quite as good as I remember this, but still bumping it to an outstanding. (Overall - 4.00)
